There is no typical plan to be followed in a diabetic weight loss diet. You can plan your own diabetic weight loss diet based on the recommended calorie intake and keeping in mind the foods that are beneficial for the diabetes patients. A sample diabetic weight loss diet is as follows.

Breakfast & Lunch Menu:


The sample breakfast of this diabetic diet includes 1 slice of bread, 1 tsp of butter, 2 eggs, 8 ozs of milk and 4 ozs of juice.  The sample lunch menu includes 1 slice of bread, 1 tsp butter, ½ cup of vegetables, ½ cup of sliced cucumber, on lettuce mushroom and spinach omelet. The lunch can be followed by a cup of tea or coffee.

Dinner Menu:


The sample dinner menu of the diabetic weight loss diet consists of 1 slice of bread, 1 small salad without any fat-dressing, ½ cup of cooked green beans, ½ cup of cooked beets, 1 cup of homemade bouillon and 1 grilled and fat trimmed pork chop.

Along with this one can also include cranberry juice, sugar free drink mixes, sugar free candies, diet drinks, club soda sugar free jams and jellies, coffee and tea. These do not have any negative impact on the health of the person.

Diabetic Patients Time lines:


Along with following a strict diabetic diet, the diabetic patients must follow strict time-lines. Having meals of same quantity and at the same timings daily is beneficial. The diabetes patients should neither overeat nor starve. There should be no more than three hours of gap between meals, be it snacks or any other food. Intake of sweets and fats must be avoided. One can use sugar substitutes instead of sugared sweets. Fried foods must be avoided or limited.

The diabetic patients must take the medicines or insulin at proper timings daily. Along with a balanced diabetic diet, the diabetic patients must follow a regular exercise regime.  This helps in reducing the weight as well as in controlling diabetes by proper regulation of insulin.
