This is one of the major reasons that make it an important part of the diet. The ability of the body to eliminate the wastes is as important as it is to absorb the essential nutrients.

Dietary fibers help in proper removing of the wastes and regulating the bowel movements. Dietary fiber helps in controlling the amount of water absorbed from the digestive wastes before excretion. Too much of water absorption from the wastes leads to hardening of the stools which is difficult to excrete and too little water absorption from the wastes indicate that the body did not absorb the required amount of water and hence may result in dehydration.

Intake of dietary fiber helps in controlling this water absorption. Due to this property of dietary fibers, they help in prevention as well as cure of a number of digestive disorders like chronic constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic diarrhoea and other gastrointestinal conditions.

In addition to being helpful in preventing and treating digestive disorders, high fiber low fat diet is extremely useful in controlling  as well as preventing blood pressure, blood sugar levels and cholesterol.
